Coffee Near Campus!

Hi All. My name is Alexa Billings and I am a junior English major. Although I have yet to do any real research on the matter, from personal experience I would say that about half of a student’s college career is spent studying or doing homework. Some of you may scoff and say, “Get a life,” but the reality is that homework is a major part of collegiate life. One of the things I love about Creighton is the campus. It’s nice, cozy and for the most part holds visual appeal. There are times, however, when it feels a little too small and all I want to do is venture out into the Omaha community. This leads me back to the homework thing. I think it’s safe to say that everyone has been to a coffee shop at least once in his or her life, however have you had the chance to visit any near Creighton? It’s a great place to go when you want to leave campus and still get work done! Below I’ve listed some of my favorite coffee shops. All of them are conveniently located near campus, so next time you feel yourself itching for a change in scenery you should definitely check them out!

Upcoming Omaha Concerts!

Hey! My name is Shelby Cervantes-Sheard, I’m a junior social work major, and one of my favorite things in the entire world is music! If you didn’t know, Omaha, Nebraska is home to one of the country’s most rad indie music scenes. It’s been known to some as the “Indie Rock Capital of the World,” no doubt claiming that title with the help of local ConorOberst and SaddleCreekRecords (Cursive, Icky Blossoms) as well as TheFaint and indie gems like ThunderPower, and friend NewOcean.  We have some awesome venues, and a pretty ace fall lineup. So the next time you’re bored, trying not to do homework, or feel the need to spend some of your extra cash – check out a show! (Side note, unrelated to concerts: unfortunately the Antiquarium, a super dope record store in the Old Market, is closing. Stop by to pick up some new music – all CDs are $1 a piece, and all records are %50 percent off.)

Keneflix!

Hey Bluejays! My name is Ellie Mata, a junior nursing student. As an RA in Kenefick Hall this year, I have the extraordinary opportunity of being apart of Kenefick Hall’s new all-campus program: Keneflix 2012.

Kenefick’s movie theater received a serious update in technology for this year. Students can watch the Huskers, play COD, have Wii tournaments, watch TV with friends, and more! This theater is the home of the new Keneflix 2012, a semester-long program that brings new movies to Creighton students before they are released on DVD.

So far this year, Keneflix has shown Rock of Ages and The Amazing Spiderman.

NEXT UP: Brave on October 3rd and 4th.

The showings of Brave this week will happen on 7 pm and 10 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, because of Fallpalooza on Friday.

Normally, showings are at 7pm & 10pm on both Thursday and Friday of the series

Keneflix doesn’t stop here! Here’s a look at what’s coming to Keneflix this semester:

Thursday, November 1 & Friday, November 2: The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Thursday November 15 & Friday, November 16: The Dark Knight Rises

Thursday, November 29 & Friday, November 30: The Bourne Legacy

I can’t end this without telling you that there is FREE POPCORN at every showing, along with a variety of popcorn seasonings to give your snack something special.

Join us in the Kenefick Theater for Keneflix 2012 where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
